About the Book
Tripura surrounded on three sides by Bangladesh and with a slender thread of communication with the rest of the country by way of Assam, merged with the Indian union on 15th October 1949. It became a Part “C” State in 1950, a Union Territory on November 1956, and ultimately became a full-fledged State of the Union of India on 21st January 1972. This book on Tripura explores the features of its early period since 590 AD. The kingdom of Tripura has a long history, covering the entire eastern region of Bengal in the south and Burma to the east. It is claimed to be one of the oldest Princely State of Ancient India. The kingdom of Tripura or Tipperah (previous name) was traced from the first century AD.
