Description
The Dilemma of Seclusion and Inner Spaces offers a comprehensive overview of Shashi Deshpande's delineation on woman's consciousness of herself as individual subject growing through her dependence on others, rather her seclusion from them. Her lifelike portrayal of woman and her identity search do not weave any doubts in readers, where her actual sympathies lie. The book particularly addresses the inner world of Indian womanhood who is forced to adopt silence for a very long duration of time. These dilemmas are sometimes ceased and sometimes elaborated. The issues and themes in her novels arise from the situation of woman at the crossroads of a transitional society, changing from traditional to modern.
