About the Book

Spirit as Womb is a metaphorical, pneumatological approach of conceiving the Holy Spirit as womb, but from an Asian perspective of diversity and marginality. The book uses biblical, classical and feminist discourses in arriving at the metaphor, towards the goal of an embodied and relational pneumatology which has the capacity to encompass diverse contexts as well as struggles which Asian peoples face. The Spirit's womb-pains express groaning in solidarity with the struggles of the marginalized and oppressed and on the other hand, creates space for diverse peoples, voices and spiritualities in consonance with Christ, the Word. The Spirit-womb in the Asian context sustains the life of the cosmos as mother, recreates and renews human relationships and links God, humans and rest of creation, overcoming the dualistic traditions that separate spirit and body or matter.
