The Famous Tamil work Silappadhikaram which contains the story of Kannakkikovalam, is nicely transformed into Sanskrit poetry in Anustup metre which is free flowing and attractive. Though the story is quite popular, the way it has been handled with contemporary outlook is highly commendable. This historical Mahakavya pertaining to the regime of Cholas effectively wards off the unfounded criticism against Sanskritists that they have no historical sense.
