India's culture is one of the oldest civilisations in the world. It is also described as "Sa Prathama Sanskrati Vishvavara”- the first and the supreme culture in the world. Culture includes values, beliefs, rules of conduct, and patterns of social, political and economic organisation. These are passed on from one generation to the next by formal as well as informal processes. The aim of this seminar is to develop an emerging field at the intersection of multi-disciplinary (development and spread of language, literature, the preservations of old monuments, promotion of performing art of various genres (classical / traditional / folk/ tribal) promotion of visual arts (paintings, sculpture, traditional and folk art and crafts) for understandings of Indian History and Culture. This book includes articles devoted to Indian culture, women, and education system, patriarchy, art & architecture, painting, tourism and industries etc. It also deals with articles related to Indian society, culture continuity and changes, religion and philosophy, the position of women. It also highlights Indian culture and Arya Samaj, Jain and Buddha philosophy, cultural heritage of India:-unity in diversity, Ramkatha in South-East Asian Inscriptions and rock paintings, the contribution of religion and philosophy in medieval India, ancient historical temples and tombs of Haryana, rock art paintings of pre-historic age. Further, it deals with the development of art during the post-Mauryan period, Samudragupta, the social life of Arabians before Islam, historical writing, Akbar’ Din-a-Illahi, women education in British India, colonialism in India, Religion in Gandhian perspective and Bazaars of 17thcentuary Shahjahanabad as spatial, symbolic and cultural spaces.
