About the Book
Grammar and Beyond is a new perspective of looking into Pāṇinian grammar. The author has methodically chosen the titles included in the book with a view to analysing the processes underlying the formations that have been described by Pāṇini under the Sūtra Kṛttaddhitasamāsāśca. This Sūtra defines the secondary formations in Sanskrit and gives them the status of Prātipadika which is the Base of nominal formations in Sanskrit. According to Arthavadadhāturapratyahaḥ Prātipadikaṁ it is one of the three basic meaningful units of Sanskrit language. Thus though formed by adding two Basic meaningful units the secondary forms are structurally and semantically independent words that convey special meaning. In order to highlight the uniqueness of Kṛdanta formations Tiṅanta has been presented in an independent chapter. The inclusion of Nañ (negation) in the list is purposeful and illuminating. The choice of Sanskrit grammatical terms makes the context authentic and helps in avoiding confusion.
