The book examines several important dimensions of development in the tribal / agency /scheduled areas in the pan Indian context in general and the West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh in particular by analysing the tribal situation in the pre-colonial, the colonial and the post-colonial periods. The book covers the Koyas, the Konda Reddis and the Nayakapods - the inhabitant tribal / indigenous communities of the study region located in the scheduled areas of the West Godavari District. The book reviews various models / strategies / approaches of tribal development adopted for the welfare of the tribal communities in the post-independence period by encompassing the emergence of British policy, management of forests and administration in agency tracts, and constitutional provisions and land legislations existed for the protection of the scheduled tribes and their territories - the scheduled areas, the concept of development verses sustainable development and the problems involved in welfare policies and also in implementation / practice of these.
