Corbett Tiger Reserve enjoys the status of being the 1st National park of India. It also enjoys the status of having the highest number of tigers in India. It containsone of the finest habitat for large prey and predators in India. However the buffer zone of the Corbett Tiger Reserve as well as its adjoining reserve forest has large number of human settlements and the human population has dependence on rural resources of the Corbett tiger Reserve. This book examines the issues related to protected area-people relationships in detail, makes an objective assessment of prey species and prevailing habitat conditions and critically examines the large scale cattle depredation which takes place year after year and its overall implication for conservation of tigers as well as other biodiversity values. The book also contains valuable geo-referenced data for direct management application by the park managers and other policy makers. Azra Musavi is currently working as Assistant Professor in Women's College, Aligarh Muslim University, India. She has a Masters degree in Economics and a PhD. in Sociology. She has also worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. She worked on tribal communities in Melghat Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra and Bori Wildlife Sanctuary, Madhya Pradesh for her PhD program. She teaches Economics and Biodiversity-Human Interface to graduate and post-graduate students. She has been pursuing research on protected area-people issues in several Indian protected areas in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir.
