The purpose of this book is to examine the present condition of poverty and cover social, legal and political aspects relating to it. It discusses relevant provisions of Indian Constitution which empower and protect the poor people in India. The book focuses on various legal efforts at international and national level to reduce poverty. It explains the role of Indian judiciary in protecting the interests of the poor. Further, legal efforts for poverty alleviation initiated by various countries such as Canada, America, Russia, Ireland and Germany have also been analysed in this book. After detailed discussion on statutory and other provisions relating to reduction of poverty and empowering the concerns of poor people, study has been concluded and on the basis of study, certain suggestions have also been given in the book to make the present laws more effective.
